Plural Eye

Filmers is a collective of artists and filmmakers who for the last two years set out to use smartphones to investigate the potential for making and circulating film/ sound art via digital technologies. What resulted was, among other things, a rich archaeological dig into social reality. Comprising of hundreds of short film clips; including observational epiphanies/artefacts, corner of the eye/ear perceptions, and dystopia like glimpses into quotidian worlds. Also, along the way, significant questions and challenges were raised in terms of using such technologies to produce and appreciate post-cinematic film art. This screening is the first curated program of new works by members and allies of the collective.

The full program is known FILMERS, PLURAL EYE
3pm Sunday 14th June 2026 at Champagne Video, 318 St Georges Rd, Fitzroy North VIC 3068.

Today we're in the ruins of a future cinema.
Today we're cleaning the temple of all its art flies.
Today we're dangling by our fingertips over the precipice of global ecocide.
Today we're leaving our phones turned on in the cinema as part of the screening.
Today we're entering into a breakaway state of delirious proximity with others.
Today we're trekking along the periphery of the great plural eye.

SOME PRE-LIMINAL PROP-POSITIONS by Marcus Bergner (10 mins, enacted live). The plural eye is an eco-communist eye as Colombian smartphones signal to us: we're living in the wrong world, and we ought to change it.

Marcus Bergner is an artist based in Brussels.

CLUSTER OF FILMER CLIPS (3mins, digital video, 2024-26)

A section of clips from the hundreds accumulated and exchanged by the collective over two years.

ACCOUNTABILITY SINK by Dirk de Bruyn (10 min extract from 120 mins, digital video, 2026). A bonsai/like personal diary shaped by the limitations of surveillance culture. The film asks “how did filming in public space become taboo.” An Accountability Sink is a system designed to drain. Control from our bodies, we become perpetual slaves to a system of scrolling gestures. As Orwell predicated, the enclosures, removing common village lands to private ownership now enters an occupation of our nervous systems. We need methods of looking that locate and resit such occupation.

Dirk de Bruyn makes films, writes, and performs. He films in the streets looking for the last vestiges of hope and his work is distributed by Light Cone, Paris.

TIME BALL WILLIAMSTOWN by Michael Buckley (8 mins, digital video, 2026)

Seb Fowler, Camera Operator; Marisa Stirpe, Sound overlay; Michael Buckley Cutting / editing. Shot on a warm summers day. The only instructions given to Seb were… Keep all the camera shots short (under 3 sec). They must be fixed shots. (No movement of the camera, No panning sequences are to be used. If any of the shots goes over three seconds you will need to explain ‘Why’ to the editor. I then explained at length my ‘aversion to editing’. I've made hundreds of films. Its a disease, a sickness. ‘I’m over editing.’ I tell Seb. Editing steals your life away! Armed with this information Seb and I headed forth out into the shoreline edge of Williamstown. It was hot, the sky had a kind of pink hue to it.

Michael Buckley is a filmmaker, sketch-maker/painter in the spirit of Hokusai, and member of the sound poetry group Arf Arf.

TWO FILMS by Lynette Smith. Inaccessible region 1 (now open your eyes) 23 seconds. A short record of my brain waves as I opened my eyes, closed my eyes, and clenched my teeth. Inaccessible region 2 (the cave) 1 minute 46 seconds. Showing my passage through a cave, opening my eyes, closing my eyes, and clenching my teeth.

Lynette Smith draws, films, writes and makes objects.

REHEARSALS OF MATERIAL GESTURES by Ettore Siracusa (HD video; 18’22”; 2026) The suite of six short films, investigate relations from sensing atmospheric conditions in environments and in the art of projection and cinema. Environments comprise the buildings, KIRKBRIDE, and surroundings, CALLAN PARK. Atmosphere, is explored out of the energy of the material world, intangible and yet tangible; a wave of resonances outside and inside of us.

Ettore Siracusa's short films explore notions of place making, cultural memory and archives, in relation to contemporary field of expanded cinema and visual arts.

LA SORTIE by Myriam Van Imschoot (7mins, digital video, 2026)

This film was developed during a residency in a school playground, in collaboration with Frederico Protto with the support of Les Laboratories d'Aubervilliers. Children lead us through the streets of Paris in an agile dance of synchronicity and tender proximity.  Everything appears different from their perspective. And as such, it seems, as Enique Dussel declared in Philosophy of Liberation that:  “Those who reveal themselves transcend the system and continuously question the given. Epiphany is the beginning of real liberation.”

Myriam Van Imschoot is an artist working across performance, film, installation and publication, with a particular interest in voice, sound and gesture.

CITY CORNER by Yanni Florence (17mins, digital video, 2026)
A short film of people at a city corner, with voice overs from different people (Marcus Bergner, Dirk de Bruyn, Jules Chaise, Violet Florence, Janina Green, and Peter Green) watching the footage and sharing their thoughts as they view it.

Yanni Florence is a photographer, filmmaker, and book designer.
