[NL] Gecureerde stad, Elie Agniel over Nocturnes for a Society (Pzazz, 2023)
[ENG] Curated City, Elie Agniel on Nocturnes for a Society (Pzazz, 2023)
In this review for Pzazz, Elie Agniel follows how Nocturnes for a Society becomes much more than a simple exercise in making sleep music together.
Through objects, voices, spaces, light and ambient sounds, he describes how the people present gradually form a temporary community.
The text reveals how carefully Myriam Van Imschoot and Lucas van Haesbroeck prepare every detail — including what first appears to be coincidence.
[FR] Janssen, Séverine. “La Voix Donnée.” - Portrait Myriam Van Imschoot
In this essay for Art Même n° 86, Séverine Janssen situates Myriam Van Imschoot’s work within a broader ecology of voices. Moving between vocal experimentation, cultural transmission, bioacoustics and collective performance, Janssen traces how projects such as YOUYOUYOU, HELfel, What Nature Says? and newpolyphonies explore voice as a site of play, crisis and healing. The text offers one of the most comprehensive readings of Van Imschoot’s artistic trajectory to date.

newpolyphonies, a new work by Myriam Van Imschoot, was created in close collaboration with the four vocalists of the ensemble HYOID. Together they created a sound artwork based exclusively on sounds of the human body — though by no means only on singing.
Much of the process took place indirectly, as the coronavirus crisis made live collaboration difficult. An alternative version of the performance, presented at Kunstencentrum Buda in Kortrijk, was therefore not live, but took the form of an installation. Even then, it was already striking how spatially the work had been conceived. At the first live performance in Antwerp [sic]*, that aspect became even more pronounced through the contribution of fifteen additional “amateur” voice artists.
