Info
TITANS is a fluid vocal landscape created by the Brussels-based YouYou Group and the Cologne avant-garde ensemble Glossa. Monophonic song, ululation, experimental choral techniques, silences, and smuggled messages converge in a constellation of performers drawn from both ensembles and local communities. Rather than dissolving into a unified sound, the voices accumulate like layers of rock, each carrying its own grain, history, and pressure.
Inspired by primordial forces and mythical figures that echo across human history, TITANS imagines the city as a site of folded time. Created for the reopening of KANAL–Centre Pompidou, the work brings together 40 performers who inhabit a terrain where geological time, urban transformation, migration histories, labour narratives, and future imaginaries coexist.
Like a living excavation, the work explores what remains embedded in bodies, architecture, and the built environment. As performers move through cycles of emergence, accumulation, and erosion, TITANS becomes a temporary monument made of voices, continuously built, transformed, and undone.
Directed by Elisa Kühnl, Doreen Kutzke, and Myriam Van Imschoot, the creation grows from an ongoing exchange between YouYou Group and Glossa within Kinotita, a platform for women composers and voice artists working with and within large ensembles. By bringing distinct vocal practices into dialogue, the performers transform KANAL into a wish-place for collective acts of listening and sounding.
